How EY is preparing for the defensive battle

The Munich I public prosecutor’s office is investigating former and current EY examiners because they have audited Wirecard balance sheets for years in a possibly criminal manner.

Dusseldorf Let Freshfields fix it. When those responsible at EY asked themselves how the auditing company could arm itself against the legal risks in the Wirecard scandal, the choice fell on Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. EY relies on the same German-British partnership that the automobile club ADAC, the German Football Association (DFB), Springer and Volkswagen mandated in times of crisis.

Freshfields is the top address for business law issues, with an annual turnover of 442.5 million euros, the traditional law firm is number one in Germany. The fact that Freshfields itself needs legal assistance in the Cum-Ex tax affair – several former top lawyers are accused of aiding and abetting tax evasion – was not an exclusion criterion for EY.
