Klaus Müller, head of the Federal Network Agency, thinks it is “good news for the German gas supply”.
It is true that the France route alone cannot solve the energy problems. Up to 100 gigawatt hours per day can be imported via French LNG terminals and from French gas storage facilities – German gas consumption was a good 1600 gigawatt hours per day in October.
But the import route is an example of the historical reversal in gas flows that took place as a result of the Russian attack on Ukraine: Until the summer, gas was still being transported from Russia via Germany to France via the Megal-Nord pipeline.
