How does changing jobs affect money?

Berlin, Dusseldorf Salary is still one of the main reasons employees leave a company. This is shown, for example, by a recent study by management consultancy EY, for which around 1,500 employees were asked about their reasons for changing jobs. 58 percent answered: “better pay”.

But there are even more good reasons for such a professional development step – because a new start in the job is often, but by no means always, associated with a jump in salary. Some job changers hope to have more time for their private lives or to enjoy their work more.

Others strive for more self-determination or less managerial responsibility. Still others want to be more flexible in terms of location and time.

The Handelsblatt spoke to five people between the ages of 29 and 57 who changed their job shortly before or during the corona pandemic. They describe what motivated them and how they deal with more or less salary than before.
