Dusseldorf It should become a new miracle weapon for farmers: Vitala is the name of the new maize plant from Bayer’s laboratories. It is quite a bit shorter and therefore does not bend so quickly in strong winds. Nevertheless, it delivers the same yield as the conventional large plants and is better equipped for droughts because it needs less water.

Vitala is one of the innovations with which Bayer intends to launch on the global agricultural market in the coming years. “We expect sales of up to one billion dollars with this new seed in North America alone,” said Bayer Board Member Liam Condon in an interview with Handelsblatt on the sidelines of an investor event. Widespread marketing will start in 2024.
