Berlin If you want to get a job at the online giant Amazon, you need stamina above all. In his book Do It Like Amazon, John Rossman, a former executive, describes how the performance bar is raised from the very beginning of the selection process. Rossman had to survive 23 rounds of interviews before he got the commitment. Otherwise, a dozen interviews for coveted managerial positions is customary.

Amazon’s application process is well orchestrated: recruiters, colleagues and team members have to be convinced from the entry level. In the end, a group around a so-called bar raiser decides whether someone gets the job or not. Its function can best be translated as bar lifter.
