Dusseldorf The chemist Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim manages to package scientific topics in an exciting way. The successful YouTube and TV presenter reveals why her own chair would never have been an option for her, what experience she has had with women bashing in the university environment and what advice she would give her 18-year-old self today.

Nguyen-Kim, born in 1987, studied at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 2006 to 2012. Among other things, she completed a research stay at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA and worked as a doctoral student at the RWTH Aachen before she went to “Funk”, the Online offer from ARD and ZDF.

Since 2016, she has been building up the multi-award-winning science channel “maiLab”, which now has more than a million subscribers. Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim has been exclusively on ZDF/ZDFneo since 2021. In her show “MaiThink X”, she again deals with scientific topics in an entertaining way.

The interview originally appeared in “#Start-Magazin Kompass”, the Handelsblatt magazine for young professionals.
