Whether car or toothpaste production, “there is great potential for savings in purchasing,” says Jörg Volkmann. The managing director of Carrisma Personalberatung and his team fill around 100 positions in the consumer goods industry and in retail every year.

Especially in medium-sized companies, some decades-old contracts apply that now have to be renegotiated. At the same time, the complexity of supply has increased. Therefore, purchasing departments would be expanded.

“Skilled procurement specialists have a secure job. Anyone who is to be poached must be made an attractive offer,” explains Volkmann. He estimates that salaries have risen by around 20 percent in the past three years alone.
