After experiencing a decline in player numbers in recent weeks, Helldivers 2 is back with the Escalation of Freedom update. Since the update’s release, the number of players on Steam has skyrocketed, doubling the number of concurrent players.
Helldivers 2 player count rises with latest update
Before the update, Helldivers 2 had an average daily player count of around 30,000 on Steam. However, after the release of Escalation of Freedom, statistics show that the game has attracted over 62,000 players. It should be noted that this is more than double the recent average.

The new update aims to bring a new spirit to Helldivers 2 with various gameplay additions. Players will now have new enemy types to fight, larger outposts, and a new difficulty setting.
The game’s developer, Arrowhead, continues to attract players with new content. The recently released update added random planetary hazards. In addition, after an operation on the planet Tien Kwan, the mechanisms are now fully playable.
The game’s momentum had slowed considerably on Steam. Helldivers 2 reached over 458,000 concurrent players on Steam shortly after its release. Over the weekend, the number of players did not seem to exceed 30,000.

It is also thought that after four months, players may have gotten bored with Helldivers 2. It is possible to say that it has gained new momentum with Escalation of Freedom. However, time will tell whether it can turn these returning players into a higher player base in the long run.
