ICE 3 neo

The new ICE 3 neo express train is a prestige project for Deutsche Bahn and an important building block in the federal government’s plan to double the number of train passengers by 2030.

Frankfurt, Munich It starts one day before St. Nicholas: On Monday, the first ICE 3 neo will travel from Frankfurt to Cologne, and Bahn boss Richard Lutz is looking forward to the start with anticipation. Siemens is correspondingly nervous.

Deutsche Bahn is traditionally one of the group’s most important customers. “The ICE is a premium product,” says Albrecht Neumann, CEO of the Rolling Stock division at Siemens Mobility. “But since we’ve had the approval, we’ve been more relaxed,” adds his colleague Thomas Grätz, head of the high-speed train segment. The new ICE gives Deutsche Bahn customers a foretaste of the future of rail travel: faster, more comfortable and hopefully less disruption. The group intends to invest more than 19 billion euros in new trains by 2030.
