Habeck wants additional money for the price of industrial electricity – but Lindner refuses

Berlin A new dispute over the federal budget has broken out between Christian Lindner (FDP) and Robert Habeck (Greens). Specifically, it is about financing a discounted electricity tariff for industry and the question of whether the WSF energy fund could possibly be used for this.

The industrial electricity price is intended to make the transformation easier for energy-intensive sectors. The state-financed reduction in the price of electricity is one of the central projects of Habeck and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), but it is also an expensive one – and therefore a reason for a dispute with Lindner. The finance minister does not want to hand out billions for a new subsidy.

However, the Ministry of Economics is expected to present a concept for an industrial electricity price next week. Thus, Habeck and Lindner run into a new confrontation.

The biggest problem: where will the money come from? “Everything depends on the budget,” says government circles.
