Words of praise for Chancellor Angela Merkel

Habeck paid her his “great personal respect” for the past 16 years, in which she has given this country a lot with a “high willingness to make sacrifices, with a very great, highest personal integrity, with her power of differentiation and her great humanity”.
But: When Habeck talks about the next government, it doesn’t sound like he’s still counting on a green chancellor: “We don’t yet know exactly who will shape the next era.” During his fast-paced, passionate speech, Habeck talked about many topics – but hardly at all about Baerbock.
The fact is: The Greens are in current polls at 15 to 16 percent. If they do not slide dramatically, Baerbock still has a good chance of becoming Vice Chancellor in a coalition with Green participation. The party is still behind her.
