Berlin The federal government wants to give the expansion of wind and solar energy a further boost. Economics Minister Robert Habeck announced on Thursday in the Bundestag that further steps would be taken to accelerate the process. He will soon present new solar and wind packages in order to reduce bureaucratic obstacles with a series of detailed regulations. It is about the standardization of plugs or even entire systems. This should make it easier, for example, to install small solar systems on balconies or on building walls.

Germany wants to obtain at least 80 percent of its electricity requirements from renewable energies in 2030. To do this, the expansion rate has to be roughly tripled. This in turn is a prerequisite for achieving the goal of reducing greenhouse gases by 65 percent compared to 1990 levels.

In addition, according to Habeck, the negative trend in inflation has broken. In 2023, the inflation rate will fall to 6.0 percent, said the Green politician on Thursday in the Bundestag. In 2022 it was still 7.9 percent, more than in decades. Inflation will continue to be contained as the year progresses. An even lower rate can then be expected in 2024 – with higher growth at the same time.

In his 20-minute government statement on the annual economic report, Habeck added that the figures in it were not good, but significantly better than expected a few months ago. According to the new estimates, the government expects economic growth of 0.2 percent this year – instead of shrinking somewhat as previously feared.
