GmbH bosses earn an average of 176,000 euros

Dusseldorf The typical managing director of a German GmbH is male, 52 years old and drives to the office in a BMW company car. He works a good 47 hours a week for the company and did not get a pay increase in the pandemic year of 2021. The annual remuneration of fixed salary and bonuses averaged EUR 176,000.

The boss has hardly any female colleagues in the management: The proportion of women in the management levels of the most common type of company in Germany is only nine percent. In addition, female GmbH managers earn significantly less than their male colleagues – up to ten percent.

These are the core results of a wide-ranging new study on the salaries of the GmbH managing director in 2020, which is available exclusively to the Handelsblatt. Around 2,700 employed managers and managing partners took part. The study was carried out by the market research company BBE Media together with the German Association of Tax Consultants.
