Berlin It’s March 23rd. The West still sees itself on the way to bringing Russia to its knees. “The sanctions are working. Russia’s economy is faltering, the stock market is largely closed, the currency has crashed, there is a lack of foreign exchange, hundreds of foreign companies are leaving the country,” said Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) in a speech in the German Bundestag.
Here he outlines his strategy in the approaching economic war. “Sanctions must not hit the European states harder than the Russian leadership; that’s our principle.” That’s why he’s resisting calls for an immediate oil and gas embargo with all his might.
