Excitement in the Europa League: Slavia Prague’s Ondrej Kudela denies racism allegations by Rangers coach Steven Gerrard against himself. Kúdela is said to have whispered insults in Glen Kamara’s ear on the pitch.
Coach Steven Gerrard has complained about an alleged racism incident on the pitch after the Europa League round of 16 between Glasgow Rangers and Slavia Prague.
“It’s sick, it’s terrible,” said the 40-year-old former England international. According to Gerrard, Glasgow professional Glen Kamara was racially insulted by Prague player Ondřej Kúdela in the closing stages of the game late on Thursday evening.
Slavia published a statement on the allegations against Kúdela and denied them. It was said to be disgusting allegations. Kúdela said “after one of the brutal fouls” to a Rangers player: “You fucking guy.” It happened in the emotion, “but I absolutely deny that there was anything racist in the words,” Kúdela was quoted as saying.
The Prague statement also stated that the team was not allowed to enter the dressing room after the final whistle. It was also said that Kudela was insulted by the Glasgow player Glen Kamara and hit with his fists in the head, which Uefa employees and Gerrard are said to have noticed.
Rangers coach Gerrard said his player was upset, he himself was upset and angry. He does not want to repeat the statements that Kúdela Kamara is said to have whispered in his ear. The Finnish international Kamara reacted angrily on the pitch. “I asked him, do you want to leave or do you want to continue playing,” said Gerrard. He has known the player for two and a half years, but has never seen him like that.
The Rangers were eliminated from the Europa League after the 2-0 defeat in Glasgow . “Some things are bigger than football,” said Gerrard. “Now the thing is at Uefa and I just hope it won’t be swept under the carpet.
