Brussels, Berlin Germany and France advocate promoting the concept of a joint European purchasing platform for gas purchasing. This emerges from a joint position paper for today’s EU Council of Energy Ministers, which is available to the Handelsblatt.

The joint paper by the French government and the federal government states: “We must combine all efforts to lower prices for Europe. We call for a strengthening of the EU energy platform as a means of increasing the EU’s negotiating power.

The idea of ​​procuring gas via a European procurement platform has been discussed in Brussels for months. The EU Commission expects this to have a price-dampening effect. So far, each EU country has organized gas purchasing for itself.
