Munich, Berlin When the Daimler shareholders decide on the split-up of the group on Friday, it will not just be about saying goodbye to the truck business. The US-heavy truck subsidiary had also kept the group in balance globally. After their spin-off, Asia will now be the dominant sales region for the remaining car business with a 32 percent share of sales. “We’re becoming more Chinese, no question about it,” says a Daimler manager.

Experts consider the development to be questionable. “With the spin-off from Daimler Truck, Daimler is also entering a new risk environment as Mercedes-Benz,” says Sven Behrendt from the consulting firm Geoeconomica.
