Gas levy: Lindner demands from – SPD announces discontinuation this week

Berlin For weeks, the traffic light parties have been arguing about Economics Minister Robert Habeck’s (Greens) plan for a gas surcharge. Now the instrument is on the brink of collapse. “I am firmly convinced that we will come to the end of the gas levy this week,” said SPD leader Saskia Esken on Sunday evening on ARD. Her co-boss Lars Klingbeil added on ZDF: “I think politics must have the power to correct mistakes.” He also expects a decision in the next few days:

“All of this must now be clarified quickly in the government,” emphasized Klingbeil. In view of the high gas prices, a waiver sends the right signal to consumers and companies. He now sees Habeck as the responsible minister on the train. Instead of the levy, a gas price brake is now increasingly coming into focus, which Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) is also promoting.
