Berlin The gas price brake proposed by the Gas Expert Commission would noticeably lower prices for private consumers. This is illustrated by calculations by the comparison portal Verivox for the Handelsblatt.

On Monday morning, the commission set up by the federal government was able to agree on an interim solution to cushion the rising gas prices for consumers and companies. The result was unanimous, three commission representatives explained the plans on Monday in a press conference. The report describes the first part of a two-step solution to cushion the rise in gas prices for consumers and businesses. A second part will follow later as planned, it should come in October.

According to Verivox, a family with a gas consumption of 20,000 kilowatt hours of gas currently has to be prepared for a gas bill of 4,108 euros per year. If 80 percent of consumption is capped at twelve cents per kilowatt hour (kWh), the gas bill at current market prices drops to EUR 2,742 – this corresponds to a reduction of EUR 1,366 per year.
