New York, Dusseldorf The way for the biggest deal in the history of the gaming industry finally seems clear: After around a year and a half, the US antitrust authority FTC withdrew its lawsuit against Microsoft’s $ 69 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard on Friday night. Now the Xbox maker just has to convince the UK regulators.

Not only Microsoft is counting on computer and video games to remain a growth driver in the tech industry – even after the end of the special boom caused by the pandemic. The sales of the largest gaming companies increased by almost five percent worldwide in 2022. This is shown by an evaluation by the strategy consultancy EY-Parthenon, which is exclusively available to the Handelsblatt.
