G20 wants to condemn Ukraine war – but doubts remain

Berlin Very few expected this: Shortly before the start of the G20 summit in Indonesia, the chief negotiators of the European Union and the 19 leading economic powers agreed on a draft for a joint final declaration. This was confirmed by EU Council President Charles Michel on Tuesday night.

According to the draft by the Sherpas, as the negotiators are also known, the G20 wants to condemn the war in Ukraine and warn against the use of nuclear weapons.

That would be a great success for the West and also for Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). Such an understanding would indicate that Moscow can no longer count on the support of its powerful partner China when it comes to Ukraine.
