Dusseldorf Edding reinvents itself. The family business from Ahrensburg, known for its felt markers, now offers electronic boards for schools and a system for digital driver’s license checks. A year ago, CEO Per Ledermann brought the two founders of the digital agency Torben, Lucie and the yellow danger, Fränzi Kühne and Boontham Temaismithi, into the leadership, who share the job as digital director.

However, expertise in applying paint and varnish remains central. Even if everything doesn’t work out: after eight years, Edding is going out of business with the nail polish brand “LAQUE”. In a double interview with the Handelsblatt, Ledermann and Kühne explain for the first time why the cosmetics sector has no future for Edding, while colors for tattoo studios may.
