Frankfurt is growing, but Berlin even more

Frankfurt Main location for German fintechs, contact point for international talents and also for some business units of classic financial institutions: Berlin is on the way to becoming an even more important financial location – and is growing at a faster pace than Frankfurt, the number one financial center in Germany. At least as far as the number of employees is concerned.

This emerges from the latest data from the Frankfurt Economic Development Agency. According to this, the number of employees in the banking and stock exchange sector in Frankfurt rose by 6,170 to 71,762 between June 2015 and June 2022. In Berlin, the increase in this period was 8,864 employees to a total of 32,126.

Max Flötotto, senior partner at the management consultancy McKinsey, says: “Berlin is currently establishing itself as another major financial center in Germany.”
