Four engines and an electric range of ten kilometers – that’s what the super hybrid from Lamborghini can do

The semi-electric bull

The Lamborghini Revuelto marks the start of the sports car brand’s electric offensive.

Sant’Agata Bolognese The car world sometimes produces strange blossoms. Then Lamborghini announces the successor to the Aventador, shows a select clientele around the world just a few sketches, reveals a few key technical data, and what happens? Almost 3,000 buyers just couldn’t resist and ordered the new super sports car right away.

The production of two years is already sold out. And this without Lamborghini even naming a price at the time. Not important in this league. It will of course be higher than that of the Aventador. Figures of around 500,000 euros plus tax were leaked online. The first vehicles are to be delivered at the end of this year.

It’s a tradition at Lamborghini not only to give the newcomer a different name, but it also has to be that of a famous Spanish fighting bull. The choice fell on Revuelto. In 1880, the animal is said to have jumped eight times – presumably out of fear – over the gang into the spectator stands before the torero gave it the final push.

The Revuelto is likely to set new standards in the history of the Lamborghini brand and is bursting with superlatives. Everything about it is new, nothing has been carried over from its predecessor. Under the carbon body – even the front crash structure is made of the super-light material – there is a drive concept that is unique to date.

The engineers from Sant’Agata Bolognese developed a completely new high-revving twelve-cylinder, installed longitudinally and positioned as a mid-engine. The front axle drives two electric motors. Another electric motor is located in the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, which is mounted transversely at the rear. Its main task is to start the V12 and charge the battery.

Superlatives on board

The Revuelto should set new standards in the history of the Lamborghini brand.

The high-voltage battery (3.8 kWh capacity) sits like a thick beam between the seats under a mighty center tunnel. The Revuelto has an incredible 1,015 hp in total and is conceptually a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), although the electric range is only around ten kilometers. Lamborghini therefore regards its new racer as an HPEV, as a high-performance electrified vehicle.

The driving values are correspondingly out of this world. In the best case (launch control), the Revuelto catapults from zero to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. The Italian flounder leaves the 200 km/h mark in less than seven seconds. Then it goes on quickly, until finally at 350 km/h the driving resistance gets the upper hand.

All in all, head of development Rouven Mohr promises unprecedented responsiveness in terms of driving dynamics. As expected, the designers set up the cockpit like a pilot’s cockpit. The angular look of the outer skin can also be found in the interior, combined with the digitization that is common today.

In the Revuelto, the center touchscreen is aligned vertically. Even the person in the passenger seat doesn’t go away empty-handed, they have their own screen. Information can even be transmitted by swiping from the central to the right display. In addition, the occupants can look forward to a lot of visible carbon fiber, leather and the newly developed recycled fiber Dinamica.

And also that some weekend luggage (two handbag trolleys) can be accommodated. Space was created for this under the front hood. In addition, there is some storage space behind the seats. A golf bag should even fit in here – hard to imagine when you look at the rear.

Ready to take off

As expected, the designers set up the cockpit like a pilot’s cockpit.

Pretty expensive

Interested parties must put more than half a million euros on the table.

The heart of the Revuelto naturally remains its twelve-cylinder engine, an engine concept that has been inextricably linked to the brand since the company was founded. It goes without saying that the latest creation (internal code: L545) is the lightest and strongest V12 unit that Lamborghini has ever put together. Less 17 kilograms compared to the Aventador engine and rotated 180 degrees during installation.

6.5 liters displacement at 9,250 rpm is good for 825 hp. If you calculate it down, you end up with a liter output of 128 hp. This is also a record at Sant’Agata Bolognese. Just like the 725 Newton meters of torque. By the way, the sound of the 12 ender is said to be martially shrill.

It’s all the quieter when the Revuelto rolls electrically powered over the asphalt. Under normal conditions, this is where the two front electric motors come into play, each with 150 hp. However, the rear electric motor – also with 150 hp – can also be switched on when required.

become lighter

Under the carbon body – even the front crash structure is made of the super-light material – there is a drive concept that is unique to date.

Four driving modes with 13 different setups are available in total. Citta refers to electric driving, Strada is the normal comfort mode, Sport is geared towards driving fun and rear-biased drive, and Corsa sharpens all the senses for the race track.

Lamborghini begins its electrification strategy with the Revuelto. They want to reduce their CO2 emissions by 50 percent by 2025 and by 80 percent by 2030. In 2024, the Urus will receive the plug-in drive from the Audi Q8. The successor model to the Huracán arrives in the same year with a new name and a power hybrid, similar to that in the Revuelto.

The presentation of the Revuelto Roadster is on the agenda for 2025. The first all-electric model from the Italian sports car brand will not be available until 2028 as the fourth series. After all, it is important to carefully introduce the petrol-driven clientele to the change.
