Reuters reported that Bankman-Fried denied the bribery charge in a hearing before District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan federal court on Thursday.

Bankman-Fried, 31, also pleaded not guilty to charges that he was accused of violating campaign finance laws.

Bankman-Fried’s attorney, Mark Cohen, said he plans to appeal the campaign finance and China-related charges by May 8 because they were made after his client was extradited from the Bahamas.

The extradition treaty provides that Bankman-Fried will be tried and punished only for the cases he faced at the time of extradition, unless the Bahamian government authorizes new charges.
