Dusseldorf Ford is the first large traditional car manufacturer to report specific financial figures for the electric car business. This year, the number two among the US auto companies in the area expects a loss of around three billion dollars, as the group announced on Thursday.

Above all, Ford wants to ensure more transparency on the stock exchange. Most other manufacturers, on the other hand, continue to keep their specific numbers from the electronics business a secret. Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz do not want to publish separate information. It is clear that the conversion of the models to electric drives requires high investments and that the companies initially earn little money with it.

With its electric cars, Ford is not only making high losses this year. In 2022, the US group posted a minus of 2.1 billion dollars, in 2021 it was 900 million.
