France captain Lloris: No further explanations for the waiver of the “One Love” bandage

Captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris apparently did not want to cause any further escalation in the discussion about not wearing the “One Love” captain’s armband. After making his waiver of the multicolored bandage public before all competitors officially withdrew, Lloris dodged a request for it on Monday. “Fifa organizes the competition, defines a framework and rules. We players are challenged to play football and to represent our countries as well as possible,” said the 35-year-old.

Basically, the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper explained that there are “various good causes that deserve to be supported. But I prefer to stick to my frame as a player.”

Last week, Lloris said he wanted to respect the host country and backed French Football Federation (FFF) president Noël Le Graët, who spoke out against the armband. “When you host foreigners in France, you want them to follow our rules and respect our culture. I will do the same when I go to Qatar. You can’t agree with that, but I will show respect,” Lloris said at a press conference. “Before you do anything, you need the approval of Fifa and the FFF. On this matter, I have my personal opinion, which is consistent with that of the President.”
