Food for the bin – an overview in graphics

Despite many efforts, the resources for the production of food are still unequally distributed around the world: While people are suffering from hunger in many regions, richer countries live in sheer abundance – and throw away a corresponding amount of food. Calculated per capita, Germany is in the sad top league. But even in countries like India and China – where famines still existed a few decades ago – waste is increasing.

There are many reasons for throwing food in the bin: One explanation that is repeatedly given is that it has gone bad too quickly. Fruit and bread are thrown away particularly frequently.
