Federal government not very transparent about state gas deals

Berlin The federal government withholds a large part of the information about gas storage filling from the public and is often ignorant or reserved when it comes to LNG purchases. Transparency of costs and strategy is largely denied, with the reference to having outsourced the task to the market area manager Trading Hub Europe (THE) – although at the same time it is conceded that the latter’s procedure is significantly determined.

This emerges from a small question from the Union faction in the Bundestag, which Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Patrick Graichen (Greens) answered for the ministry. It is available to Tagesspiegel Background.

The document blocks the question as to why THE was commissioned to fill the gas storage facility. This is stipulated in paragraphs 35 et seq. of the Energy Industry Act – which, of course, was introduced by the traffic light coalition on the initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) in April.
