Berlin, San Francisco, Dusseldorf The Facebook parent company Meta is entering the competition for artificial intelligence (AI) – and is choosing a slightly different path to its competitors Microsoft and Google. In contrast to the two tech companies, Meta wants to make its algorithms public. “We make a large part of our AI pioneering work freely available,” chief lobbyist Nick Clegg told Handelsblatt.
While Microsoft, Google and Amazon have announced big plans for artificial intelligence in the past few weeks, Meta has so far held back.
Several high-ranking meta-managers now told the Handelsblatt that the group will pursue a self-confident, different strategy on the subject. In any case, with their transparency approach, they fundamentally question the strategies of their rivals.
The AI model, with which the group wants to challenge Google and the Microsoft partner OpenAI, is already being released by Meta to universities and researchers. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg therefore emphasized on Wednesday: “Our approach to AI and our infrastructure has always been quite open.”
