Excitement is building for the 2025 World Championships in France, particularly for Rocket League, with top teams like Vitality and Karmine Corp representing the nation. Despite the tournament not being held in Paris, the event signifies a pivotal moment for France’s esports scene, which boasts a rich talent pool. Vitality aims to secure a third championship title by enhancing their roster and focusing on team dynamics, underscoring that collective understanding is crucial for success in Rocket League.

Excitement for the Upcoming World Championships in France

Fabien “Neo” Devide: Witnessing the 2025 World Championships for Rocket League and Fortnite unfold in France at the LDLC Arena in Lyon fills me with a sense of pride, similar to the enthusiasm I felt when our country hosted the Counter-Strike Major in 2023 at the AccorHotel Arena. This event marks a significant turning point, particularly for Rocket League, where France boasts some of the world’s top players and formidable teams like Vitality, Karmine Corp, and Gentle Mates. Our fan base is not only large but also incredibly passionate, supported by well-established clubs and organizations. Despite this, we have yet to host a single tournament, big or small, on our home turf. The long-standing question of why we couldn’t bring such events here has finally been answered. Now, as our French teams are among the strongest contenders, it feels like the perfect time for this recognition of our vibrant esports scene. It’s an opportunity for us to create a memorable experience, echoing the excitement of the AccorHotel Arena during the Counter-Strike Major.

Reflecting on Past Events and Future Aspirations

Do you feel disappointed that this tournament isn’t being held in Paris, unlike the Counter-Strike Major or the League of Legends World Championship finals in 2019? From a personal standpoint and perhaps a bit of superstition, I do miss the familiar pre-match rituals associated with playing in Paris. Winning a championship is often tied to a mental preparation process that top athletes excel at, especially when they’ve experienced it before. Having the chance to share insights and experiences with our current roster would have been invaluable. That said, even though the tournament is not at the AccorHotel Arena, it remains a significant event in France, and we still have the opportunity to prepare and leverage our strengths. The history we’ve built with that venue will always carry a unique significance for us at Vitality.

What factors contribute to France’s success in Rocket League? France is home to one of the most advanced esports ecosystems globally, producing elite players across various games. While some may argue about the dominance of South Korean and Chinese players in League of Legends, we consistently find French champions emerging in various gaming arenas. This phenomenon stems from a genuine passion for the sport rather than any formal educational system or cultural push. Although esports is still somewhat underappreciated in official sectors, France has been a trailblazer, with iconic figures like ElkY in Starcraft and Kaydop in Rocket League inspiring the next generation. Their achievements have sparked curiosity among aspiring players, fostering the belief that if they can achieve greatness, so can others.

Could France’s dominance in Rocket League lead to challenges for other countries? It’s true that we currently have a cluster of exceptionally skilled players, leading to a situation where French players are highly sought after. This creates a sense of dependency on the health of our clubs from both European and global audiences. However, the economic model for Rocket League isn’t fully developed yet, as clubs often face financial losses. If our top teams were to withdraw from the scene, it could create a significant void in the game’s future, despite its immense potential. Rocket League is an accessible game that captivates audiences easily, similar to Street Fighter, where the premise is straightforward and engaging. It’s unfortunate that we haven’t yet established a more sustainable economic framework for such a promising game.

How does Vitality plan to achieve a third world championship title in Rocket League? Our strategy focuses on enhancing our roster. After our 2023 victory, we maintained the championship team, but as history shows, repeating such success is challenging without making adjustments. While last year’s performance was commendable, it wasn’t enough for another title. We are now blending the best talent with players like Zen, a generational prodigy, alongside new additions “Monkey Moon” and “Exo TiiK.” This combination creates what we hope will be a super team. However, managing egos and ensuring team chemistry is crucial. We’re committed to a meticulous preparation process, honing in on schedules, tournament selection, and recovery to ensure we’re in peak condition for the world championships, just as we were for the Major in Paris.

Is having the best players in the world enough to guarantee success? Not necessarily. A successful team is one that understands its dynamics and develops a cohesive game identity. While having top-tier players helps, it’s the collective understanding and mental fortitude that truly matters in Rocket League. The game requires a high level of mental strategy, making it distinct from others. Winning relies on teamwork and the ability to perform under pressure, rather than simply the individual talent of the players.
