Berlin It was not by chance that the location where the Union and the Greens met for their first exploratory talks was not chosen by chance. At noon on the Euref campus in Berlin-Schöneberg, the parties discussed a possible government alliance – a coalition for the future of the country, as CDU leader Armin Laschet emphasized. Around 5000 people research and work at the site on the topics of sustainability, mobility and energy.

These are also the areas where the two parties are far apart. They were the subject of the talks. Laschet spoke of a “good exchange”. It is not that opposites are insurmountable, he said. The Union is ready for further talks with the Greens.

The Greens, but also the FDP, will decide whether an alliance with the Union actually has a future – and with it Laschet’s plan to save his party into the Chancellery with a Jamaica coalition.
