The Ministry of Commerce announced the start of price inspections across the country recently. In this context, warnings were given to e-commerce platforms about taking the necessary precautions.

In the statement made by the Ministry of Commerce in the past minutes, it is evaluated that there has been an exorbitant price increase in urgently needed products such as blankets, sleeping bags and heaters after the earthquake. 353 companiesor in total 74 million 975 thousand 532 TL was reported to have been sentenced.

The relevant statement of the Ministry of Commerce is as follows;

“After the earthquake that took place in our country, urgently needed materials (heater, ready-made food parcel, blanket, raincoat, hygiene kit, hygiene diapers for women and the elderly, sleeping bags, baby food, powerbank, winter boots and coats, scarves, berets, gloves, etc.) The allegations regarding the exorbitant price increase (toilet paper, etc.) were examined by our Ministry.

In this respect, inspections were carried out on the businesses that sell these products in retail sales points and electronic commerce marketplaces, both ex officio and upon complaint, by our Ministry, and a total of 353 companies that were deemed to have increased exorbitant prices at the Unfair Price Evaluation Board meeting held within the framework of the determinations made. It was decided to impose an administrative fine of 84 million 975 thousand 532 Turkish Liras.”
