Munich The former Axel Springer Executive Board member and KKR consultant Andreas Wiele is to become the new Chairman of the ProSiebenSat.1 Supervisory Board in May 2022. The 59-year-old, who was responsible for electronic media at Springer until 2019, will then succeed Werner Brandt, as the television company announced on Monday evening in Unterföhring near Munich. Brandt, who will be 68 years old in January, wants to resign after eight years at the next annual general meeting. ProSiebenSat.1 particularly emphasized Wiele’s experience with transformation processes. Until recently, he advised the major Springer shareholder KKR, among others.

Wiele should move into the ProSieben supervisory board in February. There the post of Adam Cahan, who has no more time as head of the US technology group PAX Labs, is vacant. The second vacant post is to be taken by the former boss of rival RTL, Bert Habets. The Dutchman had a dispute with Bertelsmann boss Thomas Rabe over the strategy at Springer in 2019 and now leads the Greek television company Antenna.

ProSiebenSat.1 wants to create facts with the personal details. According to insiders, the major Italian shareholder Mediaset (now MFE Mediaforeurope) has announced that it will nominate its own candidates for the ProSiebenSat.1 supervisory board – including a successor for Brandt. But that has not happened so far.

According to media reports, the Italians had also raised doubts about board spokesman and CFO Rainer Beaujean. The supervisory board supported him on Monday with a promotion. In the course of a contract extension by five years – this is unusual at ProSiebenSat.1 – he is appointed CEO. That was “the logical consequence of his very successful work on the board,” said Brandt.

Beaujean led ProSiebenSat.1 safely through the Corona crisis and consistently implemented the realignment. Beaujean’s role as CFO will be taken over by his previous deputy Ralf Peter Gierig (56) on January 1st.
