According to a media report, former US President Donald Trump has been charged in connection with an alleged hush money payment to a porn actress. The New York Times reports on Thursday.
The Manhattan Attorney’s Office had testified in front of a 23-member grand jury in recent months. This already indicated that the investigators assume that they have enough material for an indictment.
Trump is the first ex-president in US history to face criminal charges. During their terms of office, US presidents are protected by immunity.
The panel has been investigating allegations of Trump hush money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playmate Karen McDougal for months. According to their own statements, both had sexual encounters with Trump – which he denies. It is questionable, for example, whether the cash flows violated campaign finance laws.
