Ex-HSV defender Dennis Diekmeier: “It’s disgusting against Sandhausen” Sports

“It’s uncomfortable and disgusting against Sandhausen”

He was one of the big favorites of the HSV fans!

For eight years (2010 to 2018), Dennis Diekmeier (33) rushed down the sidelines as an attacking right-back in 184 competitive games, prepared 13 goals, but was never able to score a goal for HSV himself.

He only managed to do that for his new club Sandhausen, where he has been playing since January 2019 and has even scored three times (!).

On Saturday, however, the former youth international will only be there as a spectator. He’s been having problems with his hip for a few months. Perennial favorite Diekmeier only has five competitive games this season.

“Even if I can’t play, I’m still in the Volksparkstadion,” says Diekmeier, who is traveling with his wife Dana and their four children. “Hamburg is my home. I spent many happy years at HSV, all of our children were born in the Hanseatic city.

Diekmeier always brings a piece of Hamburg back to his teammates after visiting home. “I always get a big bag of Franzbrötchen and put them in the cabin. The sweet particles were always gone quickly.”

Nothing sweet, more sour awaits HSV in the duel with Sandhausen when it comes to the right foot: “We are not in a good position in the table (16th place, d.Red), we absolutely need the points. But I’m not afraid of relegation because we have a good team. We will fight for every meter. It’s uncomfortable and gross against us.”

Like on the last matchday of the 2019/20 season. At that time, HSV only needed one point to get into the Bundesliga relegation. But Sandhausen won 5-1 in Hamburg and even Dennis scored a goal.

By the way, Diekmeier enjoys the eleven-week winter break that begins after the final whistle. “I’ll then have enough time to recover from my injury so that I can attack again in the second half of the season.”
