Dusseldorf US electric car maker Tesla may have known for months that confidential information was leaking from the company. The Handelsblatt reported last Thursday about the Tesla files – 100 gigabytes of data on customers, employees and internal company information that are said to come from the heart of the group.
A former team leader from the Giga factory in Grünheide, Brandenburg, then reported on the LinkedIn social network. “I brought this to Tesla’s attention in early March 2023 when I was contacted by a reporter who claimed to have all my information, including personal information, from Tesla,” the ex-employee wrote. After that, he “didn’t hear another word from Tesla.”
For Tesla, the ex-employee’s statement could potentially become a problem. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires a company to inform the competent supervisory authority “without delay and if possible within 72 hours” after becoming aware of a personal data breach.
