Düsseldorf, Lyon Europe will become the world’s second largest battery market in the next few years. Only in China are more batteries being built. This is shown by the latest market figures from the renowned French energy consultancy Avicenne. There is currently no completed gigafactory in Europe, but 200 gigawatt hours (GWh) of production capacity should be created within three years, Avicenne has calculated with a view to the investments of the battery manufacturers.
By 2030, capacities in Europe will increase further to 400 GWh. “The Asian cell manufacturers are setting up their factories in Europe because, apart from China, it will be the largest market in the world,” says Avicenne boss Christophe Pillot. More than a quarter of the global market volume is likely to be in Europe and thus significantly more than in the USA. China will remain the undisputed number one.
