Ergo and the historical sex journeys

Dusseldorf Perhaps the Ergo leadership would have been spared a lot if they hadn’t tried to deny the inevitable. In May 2011, the Handelsblatt uncovered the sex trip to Budapest at the Hamburg Mannheimer subsidiary. Ergo was horrified, reported those allegedly responsible and described the open-air orgy in Budapest as unique. She kept the independent investigative report that allegedly confirmed this under wraps.

So it came as it had to come. We kept researching and found one trip after another. To the Reeperbahn in Hamburg, to brothels in Mallorca and a swinger hotel in Jamaica.

More than a year after the actual scandal, the preferred means of employee management at Hamburg-Mannheimer were all back in the newspapers. A bestselling author from the USA even recognized the essence of German in all of this.

In Handelsblatt Crime, Mary Abdelaziz-Ditzow talks to Sönke Iwersen about his research, which just kept going. This is about Ergo’s unfortunate decision to turn the mess over to the public prosecutor’s office, the judicial farce when no court in Hamburg wanted to deal with the sleazy affair, and the reason why the original sex trip to Budapest even ended up in the House of History.
