Eon: price shock for district heating customers

For Eon’s district heating customers, the price shock is only now coming – but it’s decent.

Dusseldorf Eon expected its customers to make the first horrendous additional payment in November. In some cases, the energy company demanded 2000 euros and more as a surcharge for the year 2021. A few days ago, the second shock followed: the costs for the year 2022 are also increasing massively. For example, an average house in Hamburg-Bergedorf costs 3,600 euros more than planned.

Angry customers are now raising serious allegations against their energy supplier and sharply criticizing the price increase. And they are not alone in that.

“For gas, Eon keeps the basic supply prices lower, here the prices have just doubled, for district heating we see a quadrupling,” criticizes energy expert Christina Wallraf from the North Rhine-Westphalia consumer center. This is a classic case for the cartel office.
