Dusseldorf EnBW boss Frank Mastiaux wants to use the leading role of the group in the gas market for the future business with hydrogen. “In the next ten years, EnBW will convert its gas commitment to hydrogen commitment,” said Mastiaux in an interview with Handelsblatt.
The EnBW boss wants to use the subsidiary Verbundnetz Gas (VNG), one of the largest gas wholesalers in the country, for this purpose. “We can already transport ten percent hydrogen through the VNG lines, and we will gradually increase that,” said Mastiaux. But he also sees potential in power generation: “Every coal-fired power plant that we convert to gas, we can later convert to hydrogen.”
