Berlin In order to stabilize the financial situation of social long-term care insurance, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) should draw up comprehensive savings proposals. This emerges from a revised draft of the law on support and relief in care (PUEG), which is available to the Handelsblatt.

“By May 31, 2024, the Federal Ministry of Health will present recommendations for stable and long-term financing of social long-term care insurance,” the draft says. “In particular, the expenditure side of social long-term care insurance should also be considered.” Christian Lindner’s (FDP) Federal Ministry of Finance should also be involved.

The traffic light coalition wants to discuss Lauterbach’s care reform in the cabinet on Wednesday. It was unclear until the very end whether that would happen. Coordination between the ministries involved proved difficult. Government circles say that they are on the right track.
