Brussels The US strategist Eliot Cohen expects a Russian defeat in the Ukraine war. “The Russians have mobilized the bulk of their operational conventional armed forces and they are suffering high casualties,” said the military expert in an interview with the Handelsblatt. The high morale of the Ukrainian armed forces is primarily responsible for this: “The Ukrainians know what they are fighting for – the Russians don’t.”
But the supply of weapons from the West is also helping to turn the tide in favor of the defenders. “We should provide Ukraine with all the weapons it needs to fight back the Russians and only stop when the Ukrainians tell us they can’t take any more weapons.”
Europe and the US should not be intimidated by Russian nuclear threats. If Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny can defy Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, “then damn it, NATO can too.”
