Social media overflowed with cries for help after the earthquake, the epicenter of which was Kahramanmaraş. Some of these posts were from people who really needed help, while others were fake in a way that we could not understand how they benefited. Law enforcement officials announced that action was taken against those who shared fake and provocative posts.
There’s something we hate to say every time: “The earthquake showed its bitter face.” Yes, unfortunately Turkey experienced the reality of earthquake once again. The earthquake that hit Kahramanmaraş felt all around and we lost more than 200 lives according to the first determinations. While it is known that there are hundreds of injured, the balance of the earthquake increases possible.
At the time of the earthquake, everyone tried to reach their loved ones and get information, as always. In addition, emergency hotlines were also extensively called for help. As such, both internet and cellular connections there were interruptions. Citizens who could not reach the emergency aid teams tried to announce their cries on social media. However, as in every event, after this earthquake, some individuals continued to share provocative and misleading posts, forgetting the humanitarian and vital aspects of the event.

The General Directorate of Security has also taken action regarding the posts on social media. In the statement made on Twitter, it was stated that all the shares were examined and the shared addresses were checked one by one. In this context; about fake accounts taken into action announced. The sharing was as follows:
“After the earthquake, the address information of our citizens, who called for help through social media platforms, is determined immediately and coordination with the relevant units is established. In addition, 13 account managers who were considered to have provocative posts were identified.”
