DNA Shaped Observation Tower Rising from the Swamp in Denmark

An observation tower inspired by the double-stranded DNA model in a national park overlooking the North Sea in Denmark opened to visitors this summer. Let’s get to know Marsk Tower, which offers unique views at 36 meters above sea level.

We saw a lot of towers, statues and similar structures inspired by different objects. In fact, it would be better if we did not see structures such as giant tea cups and giant olives. But don’t worry, this time you will come across a fine example of structures built as ‘giant versions of something’.

Meet the DNA model-inspired observation tower that greets visitors in a national park in Denmark. 25 meters high Marsk Tower is not only the emblematic monument of the Wadden Sea National Park; it also connects visitors with unique North Sea views.

The construction of Marsk Tower was inspired by the helical structure of DNA. The observation tower, originally built for its function, has already become a symbol monument with this design. The building, the construction of which was almost completed last year, was opened to visitors last August.

Designed by an architectural firm known for this type of work, the Bjarke Ingels Group, the double spiral tower features two different directions in its spiral staircase. To put it more clearly, the 146-step spiral guides the visitor upwards, while the 131-step spiral brings it down. In the middle of the spirals, there is an elevator for those who say “I get blocked”. When you get to the top 36 meters above sea level you are out.
