Salzgitter The metal industry is one of the sectors hardest hit by the energy crisis. “We have to take the current situation very seriously. There will be upheavals in both industry and society,” says the CEO of Germany’s second largest steel producer, Gunnar Groebler, in an interview with the Handelsblatt.

For Salzgitter, however, he considers the burden to be manageable. The additional expenditure for gas at Salzgitter in the current year is likely to reach a three-digit million amount. But Groebler still expects profitable business – “although certainly not at the same level as in the first half of the year”.
