Dusseldorf, Washington Air traffic in the USA is disrupted: The US aviation authority FAA has stopped flights nationwide after a computer failure, as reported by several media. Accordingly, the FAA announced that its Notam system (“Notice to Air Missions”) had failed. All persons involved in flight operations, such as pilots and ground staff, are informed via the system.

Operations across the national airspace system have been impacted, the agency said. How big the effects are, however, was not initially clear.

According to the flightaware.com website, more than 750 flights within, to or from the United States were delayed on Wednesday morning (local time), and around 90 were canceled. It was not clear whether the computer failure was the reason for the disruption. The Bloomberg news agency reported that all United Airlines flights had been suspended.

The FAA said technicians were working to fix the problem. The system will restart.
