Berlin It only takes a thumb’s length – and the supply chain breaks. In the past six weeks, the German autobahns have been about five centimeters, which has led to a scandal. Five centimeters, which were missing in an official order from Autobahn GmbH and therefore stopped heavy-duty transports for MAN or Daimler, for agricultural machinery manufacturers such as Claas or Deere on the way to customers.

But one after anonther. The story began on August 1st. Since then, the federal Autobahn GmbH has bundled the approval processes for heavy goods transport – instead of the federal states.

The new central administration had already taken over the federal trunk roads in 2021. But because things are far from running smoothly, the federal states continue to help out with many tasks.
