Disputes over ammunition deliveries to Ukraine split politics

Swiss politicians are debating indirect arms deliveries to Ukraine.

Zurich In Switzerland, bipartisan support is growing, at least for indirect arms sales to Ukraine. Gerhard Pfister, President of the party Die Mitte, is demanding approval for the transfer of tank ammunition to Ukraine, which Switzerland has exported to Germany.

The President of the liberal FDP, Thierry Burkart, is also open to this and also advocates closer cooperation with NATO. And the Green Liberals recently even pushed for direct arms deliveries to Ukraine.

The demands are tantamount to a break with Swiss foreign policy traditions that have been cultivated for decades. The liberal Federal President Ignazio Cassis, who is also responsible for the Foreign Office, has so far resisted such a historic break.
