Deutsche Telekom prepares to leave T-Systems

Dusseldorf Deutsche Telekom has initiated the departure from its major customer subsidiary T-Systems. Group boss Timotheus Höttges and T-Systems boss Adel Al-Saleh let their strategists run through scenarios for a complete spin-off and realignment or a sale, as several people familiar with the process told the Handelsblatt. Talks have already been held with potential buyers. A Telekom spokesman said the group did not comment on rumors.

According to the information, the plans are being played out under the code names “Falcon” (falcon) and “Eagle” (eagle). This would solve a protracted problem for the Dax group. T-System has been an integral part of Telekom for many years, but the group has not earned any money with the unit. On the contrary: within the group, doing business with large customers, for whom T-Systems primarily provides IT services, has been a loss-maker for years.
